Annual Reiki Conference

September 2023 - Surrey

Geoff Rolls

It was wonderful to see so many of our members join us for our first in-person event for three years, and as arrivals started flowing in around 9am, the excitement levels were high! It was a bright, sunny day and 120 members took their places in the beautiful Coulson Manor Hotel reception suite ready and bubbling to meet everyone in person for the first time in so long.

Our compère for the day was the charismatic Geoff Rolls who kept the day running seamlessly between each speaker in his own calm style. Geoff gave his introduction and also shared some of his thoughts about his kinesiology practice throughout the day.

Torsten Lange

Next up was Torsten Lange, international speaker and author of multiple Reiki books under the Hay House label. Torsten brought us some extremely interesting insights about Reiki but also talked about the direction the human race is travelling. He shared his personal journey to finding Reiki and how it has changed his life in truly amazing ways, leaving so many attendees feeling inspired and thoughtful. In fact some of the subjects that came up during this session carried on later into the evening when our committee were talking about the day.

Jo and Simon Fellows

Jo and Simon Fellows then showed us what an amazing team they are by talking us through the methods and instruments they use on their yoga retreats. This started with the ocean drum which is used to mask distracting background sounds and create ‘white noise’ to allow your focus to be on the drums. Once the sound bath began, everyone melted into their chairs as they enjoyed the serenity of the penetrating sounds produced by the range of singing bowls.

Several attendees commented on the amazing energy in the room with so many Reiki people in one place all sharing these experiences together.

Dr Duncan Cross

After a lunch break our Reiki Research Coordinator, Dr Duncan Cross took us through the preliminary results form the most recent UKRF survey published in July. The subject of this survey was ‘Reiki and Meditation’ and sought to find out about the demographics of the Reiki community.

Duncan explained the importance of collecting this type of information so we can know more about the community as a whole. This is an important step in becoming more inclusive and to enable us to bring in members from all nationalities, genders, religions, age groups and races – Reiki is for everyone after all.

Duncan’s talk brought up important topics around inclusivity and has helped UKRF to start growing the diversity team within our organisation – which can only be a great thing for us all. A couple of members were so inspired by this that they have now joined our committee to help with our diversity and inclusion commitments, including bringing new online events for the future.

Jasmin Harsono

We were then ready for Jasmin Harsono’s meditation session which was a lovely way to connect to the Reiki energy. Jasmin Harsono is a wellness practitioner and author who created this meditation technique called the Three Diamond Breath. This technique is based on the Japanese energetic system and involves breathing exercises that focus on three energy centres in the body: Hara, Heart, and Third Eye. Looking around the room it was obvious that everyone was fully immersed in the meditation, and again the energy in the room was fabulous.

Johannes Reidl

Johannes Reidl then took us on a Reiki share journey which was a rare chance for us all to share our Reiki gift with Johannes, who is the Usui Shiki Ryoho lineage bearer. Although Johannes has previously attended online UKRF events, it was the first time most people had met him in person, so this was a treat indeed and a great start to the day.

Laura Barbour

For anyone who loves animals, the presentation brought to us by our Animal Coordinator, Laura Barbour was truly inspiring. Laura took us through the updates in the process of becoming an Animal Reiki practitioner and also about how to understand how animals can communicate their consent to receive Reiki and very importantly, how to tell if they don’t consent. This turned into a very interesting discussion with many questions being offered by members around the room. Feedback from this was that some members who had never considered training to become Animal Reiki practitioners, were now interested in finding out more. It was great to hear how much work is being done by UKRF to get Reiki recognised by vets too. A very important step.

Jo Fellows

Next, Jo Fellows talked to us about how Yoga can work well with Reiki and took us through some pranayama breathwork, which was perfect following on from the sound bowls. Jo explained how yoga works with mind, body and spirit to calm the mind and align the body. Reiki and yoga work well together and this was demonstrated clearly by Jo’s session.

During the breaks, delegates enjoyed networking and meeting new people and also perused the selection of crystals on offer from Pauline Flitton. Many people purchased beautiful crystals and jewellery items to take home – a lovely memento of a great day. You may recognise Pauline from our recent online events.

Torsten was on hand to sign copies of his latest book – ‘Proof of Reiki – Proof of Eternity’ and his table full of fresh copies had gone by the end of the day.

Johannes

To bring the conference to a close Johannes shared many of his insights with us, including his personal journey which brought him to be recognised as the lineage bearer for Usui Shiki Ryoho in March 2019. It was inspiring to hear him speak of the former lineage bearer, Phyllis Lei Furumoto and how she selected Johannes to take over when she passed.

This was followed by a question and answer session and many people asked the panel to explain various aspects of UKRF activities and the subject of research was discussed in a bit more detail.

In summary, the 2023 conference was a huge success and we have received many, many positive comments from attendees who all enjoyed the many varied speakers we had lined up for the day. It was lovely to know that many members travelled quite some distance, some staying overnight, to share this with us. Putting together an all-day event such as this has its challenges so we are so pleased that it was received so well and that the attendees have become inspired in so many ways. Please do follow us on social media and keep an eye out for our many online events we run throughout each month. We also send a monthly email to all members with the forthcoming month’s events, so you can be sure never to miss our Reiki shares, meditations, webinars and talks.

Thank you for sharing this day with us.
